The biggest and most successful costume party on the entire African continent, the annual MCQP, not only promises that you’ll have a ball of a time as you celebrate all the highs and lows of the year that was 2019, but it will also embrace the very one thing that the entire nation is very passionate about on one level or another – especially now that Siya brought home the big gold trophy of positivity.
Depending on your own personal choice of what makes you excited and comes to mind when you hear the word, you will get to dress up and chase around any kind of ball you desire.
Indeed, the theme for this year’s biggest party highlight on the Mother City’s calendar is MCQP Presents: The Love Ball, taking place on Saturday, December 21, at Cape Town Stadium, from 8pm.
The creative team behind its success strives every year to top what has been accomplished before – not an easy task at hand when you have to outdo 25 events from prior years.
As Ian McMahon, Director of MCQP Presents: The Love Ball, points out, the theme should be one that will alienate not a single soul. As he says about this year’s MCQP: “Not only are sport fans of every kind bursting with excitement and finally get an evening to dress up as one of the team’s they passionately support, but you as a unique individual gets to interpret the theme just as you like. So go wild or go silver, even gold and bold!” Its leather meets ball gown, OTT meets the masked soirée.
If the economy made you “ball” every time you checked your back balance, MCQP’s gift to you in 2019 is the comfort in knowing that you will still be able to afford it, by not increasing the cost of tickets which similar to last year remains at R400.
For those that can afford to pay more, VIP tickets include fast-track access, a private area with two VIP floors, lounge and seating area…and as VIPs naturally welcomed with some limited complimentary drinks, canapés and more so they experience “the fuss they believe they deserve upon arrival”.
By now most are likely already “kicking” some ideas around. Close your eyes as you picture a glitzy, oh so OTT, Viennese style ball which can turn into runways, team sports and even a seduction of all your senses. Whatever you’re into, whether it be high stilettos and soccer sneakers, an excuse to finally wear that big wig you’ve always wanted to or see what happens when you hide behind a masked face allowing your personality alone to win others over, “allow yourself this one night of ultimate freedom to make your personal fantasy come true,” say the MCQP team.
As much as MCQP allows for any kind of dress up style, this extends to the entertainment provided as well. “Oh you better believe it,” says Ian McMahon. “Five music areas – 3 main dance floors. The main dance floor is in a new 6m high room, 100m long – Boom! Live performances and the best DJs, and you know you have another slam dunk winner – all provided within a warm indoor, and yes party animals, a wind and rain free venue. There will be loads of food, drinks, fun, frivolity and festivities. The production members of ‘Kinky Boots’ are set to show up, DJ’s such as: internationals Cambis (Germany) and Djuma Soundsystem (Norway) + Dean Fuel, Bruno, Floyd Lavine, PJ Smith, Mr Mo, Funky G, Ikon, Richard Marshall, Abby Nurock, Bryce Barnard, Sarah Bee , Candice Heyns, Sampson Bro, Grant from CT + Brandon White.
And let’s not forget the drag queens and other performers too.”
