The long school holidays have arrived that means only one thing: days and days of the quintessential South African summer, marked by sun, fun, and sea. Going to the beach is of course one of the best ways to experience Cape Town’s awesome coastline, but if you are looking for more – and for a bit of shade – then the Two Oceans Aquarium at the V&A Waterfront is the place for you.
The best of Southern African ocean wildlife
Exhibiting more than 8 000 individual animals representing over 250 species, Cape Town’s iconic and award-winning aquarium is renowned for showcasing South Africa’s amazing biodiversity. A huge variety of fish and other animals tell the story of what makes this country’s coastline so special and amazing, and the help of interactive exhibits means this is not only something beautiful to look at, but very informative too.
The Two Oceans Aquarium is open every day from 09h00 till 18h00, and from 21 December 2019 to 10 January 2020, the Aquarium will be extending its opening hours and will be open from 09h00 until 19h00 (closing at 18h00 on 25 December). This extra hour is perfect for those who like to stretch their days of leisure a bit longer.
The Two Oceans Aquarium has also recently welcomed Bootlegger Coffee Company as its onsite restaurant. This makes grabbing an early dinner during extended hours, oh-so convenient and delicious.
Spectacular feeding presentations
The Aquarium is full of wonder and excitement, with exhibits housing a myriad of animals ranging from African penguins, rays, turtles and large sharks, to tiny microscopic animals and fascinating jellies. With so much to do and see, the Aquarium is the perfect place for the whole family to enjoy a fun day out.
Feeding times at the Aquarium are always exciting, not only for the fish, but definitely also for the visitors. Whether it is the two penguin feeds daily (11h30 and 14h30), the fascinating diver-lead feed in the I&J Ocean Exhibit at 12h00 daily (with another feed in this exhibit at 14h00), or the shark feed on Sundays at 15h00, visitors are sure to experience something special, educational and entertaining.
