The award-winning Two Oceans Aquarium at the V&A Waterfront is ready for a bumper holiday season – and not only for kids! From live music to extended operating hours, the entertainment levels have been bumped up to maximum so that locals and out-of-towners can experience more of Southern Africa’s marine magic this winter.
The Aquarium is home to more than 8 000 animals representing over 250 local species – nowhere else will you to see quite this much of the diverse life that thrives underwater. The three awesome large-scale exhibits – featuring majestic ragged-tooth sharks, tall waving kelp fronds, and turtles, stingrays and a full 10m-long tunnel – are complemented by many smaller exhibits that surprise and delight around every corner. Close encounters happen at the Touch Pool and Microscope Exhibits, and five feeding times a day ensure that visitors are engaged and informed throughout their visit.
During the holidays, from 15 June to 8 July, the Aquarium will open at 9am and close at 6pm. Visitors will be able to meet the friendly mascots and there will be complimentary face-painting over weekends. Little ones will love the extra-special holiday craft schedule, and thrice-daily puppet shows and a jungle gym round out their experience.
The best way for locals to get the most out of the Aquarium is to opt for an annual membership – this pass offers unlimited visits, special discounts on events and experiences, and exclusive events like sleepovers. After just three visits the pass is completely “paid off”! Perfect if you want to visit regularly. On 3 July members will have the Aquarium to themselves from 6pm to 9pm – just one of the perks of belonging to this family.
If you prefer dusk to dawn, don’t miss the After Dark concerts happening in June, July and August. Celebrating local music, the Aquarium and Texx and the City have put together a truly inspiring lineup.
The Aquarium was recently named Best Responsible Attraction at the World Travel Market Responsible Tourism Awards, which means that you can visit knowing you’re contributing to broad-ranging education, conservation and research work. Inspiring stuff, right on your doorstep.
