‘Superwoman’ songstress Karyn White coming to Cape Town

Marmalade Productions will be presenting ‘Divas 2018’ in SA in the coming weeks, featuring international award-winning singer, Karyn White. White will be supported by the cream of SA’s Divas: Unathi, Paxton Fielies and Sasha Lee Davids in Joburg; and Fielies, Davids with G&T and Rene Johnson in Cape Town.

White possesses one of the most memorable, distinctive voices of the 1980s and 90s eras in pop music. She’s an accomplished singer/songwriter who etched herself into music history with her smash hit song, the female anthem, ‘Superwoman’. The song made international waves, selling over a million units, being certified Gold and named the Billboard R&B Song of the Year in 1989.

White opened the doors of Karyn White Enterprises Inc. (KWE) in 2011. It is a multi-platform media company offering “diverse and uplifting entertainment” across the media landscapes of music, television and film. White released her album ‘Carpe Diem’ on her own label and distributed through Light Year/EMI.

White’s 2017 movie and soundtrack, ‘Gale & The Storm’, is a story loosely based on White’s life and manager Jay King, legendary music producer and founder of Grammy award winning group Club Nouveau. The movie’s synopsis revolves around a revolutionary music producer who links up with a legendary soul singer and tries to convince her to sing again. White executive produced, co-wrote and starred in the film.

White also executive produced, co-wrote and recorded eight songs on the soundtrack for ‘Gale & the Storm’. The soundtrack is a fusion of cosmic funk, soul, rock and R&B. White recorded the songs in 2.5 days while filming the movie in a 7-day period.

White has no intentions of slowing down anytime soon. Her upcoming plans include appearing as a series regular in the BET sitcom ‘Beauty and the Baller’, created and produced by Emmy Award winning writer Michael Ajakawe. White also debuted in the Lionsgate feature film ‘American Bad Boy’, Starring Kat Williams. She is also gearing up for tour dates the UK and Japan.

Paxton Fielies, winner of Season 13 ‘Idols SA’, is to date the show’s youngest winner and first person to receive a golden ticket.

Sasha Lee Davids was born in Atlantis and is a professional singer and the 2009 co-winner of ‘SA Idols’ 5. She is also the winner of the 2008 reality TV show ‘Matrix’ 2.

SA female duo G&T consist of best friends, Shelley Gordon and Sarah-Jane Thomas. Created by Chad Saaiman and Stereotype Talent Management, they released their debut single in September last year entitled ‘Shameless’, produced in the USA by multi-Grammy winner Khari “Needlz” Cain.
