Young Cape Town golf star heads for Euro champs

Eight-year-old Athlone golfing phenomenon Traigh Pathon will be competing in the European Kids Golf Championship in Scotland starting May 29.

Traigh hit his first golf ball when he was only 14 months old, appeared in his first ever television advertisement at 18 months, and he played his first ever round of golf at the tender age of four.

Traigh Pathon is the youngest member of the prestigious Royal Cape Golf Club in Cape Town.

After placing in the top three in his first international tournament last year, he is considered one of the world’s most promising young golfers.

Traigh is flying to Scotland courtesy of Turkish Airlines. His dad and caddie, David Van Schalkwyk, thanked the airline for recognizing Traigh’s potential and making his dreams come true: “I am so proud of my son and all he has achieved.”

“Turkish Airlines continues to make impressive strides in the world of golf, through sponsoring and supporting several prestigious professional and amateur golf events – and it is for this reason that Traigh’s story caught the attention and admiration of Turkish Airlines, adds Turkish Airlines General Manager in Cape Town, Kenan Ince.
