How do you know for sure that summer has finally arrived in Cape Town?
One sure sign is when the big, red open-top bus resumes its sunset bus in one of the most beautiful city on earth.
The City Sightseeing sunset bus heralds the start of long, bright and languid evenings; of warm weather and of evenings perfect enough to give everybody an opportunity to enjoy and admire the Mother City.
Leaving in the early evening from the Waterfront and making its way up to Signal Hill for a single stop, the bus offers the very best way of taking in the matchless beauty of the Atlantic coastline on a summer evening.
If you are thinking of hopping on the bus for this unforgettable experience, there are some things worth bearing in mind if you want this to be the experience of a lifetime.
First, remember that the bus winds its way from the Waterfront along the beachfront as it heads towards its stop on Signal Hill. If you are looking for a frenetic, quick whizz around Cape Town, then the red open-top bus is not for you. This is a chilled evening out, giving you an opportunity to sit back and indulge in two to three hours of sightseeing and relaxation.
Second, taking a picnic basket along is highly reccommended. The stop atop Signal Hill is the highlight of the evening, giving you a chance to enjoy your dinner with the world’s most breathtaking sight at your feet. Don’t forget a blanket and remember your camera, because these are views that inspire the photographer in everybody.
Third, plan your evening out and make it an occasion to remember. Be sure to get your tickets early. These are available from City Sightseeing’s ticket office at the departure point opposite the Two Oceans Aquarium in the V&A Waterfront. Tickets are also sold online at www.citsightseeing.co.za. Get there early, at least 30 minutes before the 6pm departure (in December, January and February). The bus leaves promptly at scheduled departure times.
