The Oude Libertas Amphitheatre at the Stellenbosch Slowmarket has a packed festive line-up in store for arts lovers in the coming weeks.
Included among the highlights in the next few weeks are:
International sax man Andrew Young on December 10, at 6.30pm
Hailed as the Prince of the Saxophone, acclaimed saxophonist, Andrew Young, and his band will perform once again at the Oude Libertas Amphitheatre on Sunday, December 10.
The show is an eclectic mix of blues and rock ‘n roll, including Young w’s unique performances of ‘Watermelon Man’, ‘Georgia’ and ‘Baker Street’ which have become the most requested songs of his repertoire.
Born in Liverpool, England and now residing in Vienna, Austria, Young performs across the globe to audiences as far afield as China and the Far East, Africa, The Caribbean and South America, and Europe.
Sharing the stage with South African artists like Joseph Shabalala of Ladysmith Black Mambazo and Jonathan Butler, as well as international stars like Shakatak, Shirley Bassey, Dionne Warwick, Matt Bianco and Precious Wilson Band, Young has captivated audiences with his melodic sounds. Young has promised an “awesome show” with some great music played by fantastic musicians, both local and international.
Young’s special guest in this Show will be Rock Hall Of Fame and guitar legend Jethro Butow.
Richard Cock and some famous friends on December 13 and 14, at 8.15pm
Following on from the success of the last few years, well known conductor Richard Cock has invited well-known Zolani Mahola (lead singer from Freshleyground) and Adeliah Douw to join him in presenting another in the series of “Friends” concerts. This time they will explore the rich musical vein of well-known ballads and favourite tunes, all presented in the relaxed and welcoming way that has made these concerts so popular in the past.
Two powerful songbirds in their own right, Mahola and Douw should form an electric pair as they lead audiences in songs as wide ranging as ‘River Deep, Mountain High’, ‘All about that Bass’, ‘Cry me a River’, and ‘Back of the Moon’.
Cock will bind the whole evening together in his inimitable style, and will lead orchestra and singers in a ‘Touch of Jazz’ – a powerful blend of pieces that promises to melt hearts in this festive showcase.
