Tropical themed awaits at Kenilworth Racecourse on R1 million race day

Saturday, December 2, will see the running of the R1m World Sports Betting Fillies Guineas at Kenilworth Racecourse. This race is the alternate first leg of the Triple Tiara series, which will take place from February to April 2017 in Johannesburg.

The day promises to be about glamour and fun, while exposing people to the thrill of horse racing. With a more personal approach, there will be greater involvement in the actual race day proceedings than usually allowed for non-horse owners.

Jenny Morris and Darren Green will attendees on the tropical themed day, which will seek to facilitate an element of timeless beauty and elegance and will allow patrons to wear their boldest and brightest attire. If the Hip Hop fashion show doesn’t excite race goers, the auction of a filly “All At Once” (Captain Al x Alexia), donated by Heinrich Rix of the Stonehill Stud Farm, should. This filly was handpicked personally by the well-respected Bloodstock Agent Grant Knowles of Klawervlei Stud and “All At Once” has recently started her training career with Western Cape based trainer, Brett Crawford.

Another filly to go through the ring is “Hope the Horse” – she was donated by Highveld Horse Care Unit (HHCU). She goes under the hammer with proceeds being donated back to HHCU. HHCU is the largest equine welfare organisation in South Africa and was established in 1991. They get involved in all matter relating to equine welfare. From education to medical clinics in underprivileged areas, to rehoming and hospitalisation and assist on average 9000 horses and donkeys annually.

Join in on the Ladies only event (gents may join after 4pm) where there will be “loads” of prize giveaways. Tickets are R500 per person, which includes entertainment, welcome drink and a 3-course meal.

For a more relaxed afternoon, why not join the Racing. It’s A Rush Team on the lawn in the Fillies Lounge. This area will still give visitors the opportunity to rub shoulders in a relaxed environment at R100 per person, which includes a private bar, tote facilities and race day tours. Tickets are available on course and numbers are limited.

Dress code is strictly Summer Chic, so for men that means no shorts or sandals.

Kenilworth Racecourse will be the place to be for a beautiful afternoon setting, with gates opening from 11am. Food trucks and areas to watch the rugby as well as cash prize giveaways will be the order of the day.
