The Grill Jichana held an intimate dining experience in the wine cellar of the Grill Jichana to showcase some of the best dishes the restaurant has to offer. The Grill Jichana at Southern Sun Elangeni & Maharani in Durban offers guests a taste of traditional grill house favourites, combined with flavours of the African East Coast spice route – all prepared with a contemporary twist. “Fresh, seasonal and unpretentious” is the kitchen mantra adopted by Southern Sun Elangeni & Maharani Executive Chef Shaun Munro, whose culinary inspiration, he says, is to keep it simple.
The guests were treated to a range of meat, fish and poultry dishes – expertly grilled to each of the guest’s liking, as well as a range of fresh salads and sides and a vegetarian offering. Steaks are one of our restaurant’s specialities and Durban locals return again and again for our superior cuts of meat and expert preparation. The meal was finished off with two truly decadent desserts including the theatrical favourite five-chocolate Valrhona chocolate ball with fresh fruit relish.
Amongst those in attendance were none other than celebrity chef, Lentswe Bhengu who is well known as judge on KFC Taste Kitchen and BET’s Africa on a Plate. Amanda Jingela, Durban based social media influencer as well as Food Editor at Independent Media, Buhle Ngaba.
“My personal style of cookery is one of simplicity, using the finest quality ingredients prepared with passion and pride in the most appropriately selected method (recipe) allowing the final taste to the best it possibly can be – simple!”, says Munro.
He continues, “I am a firm believer in the entire meal experience – all that subconsciously impacts our experience when enjoying a meal ie the furniture and fittings of the dining room, the cutlery, crockery, glassware, the music, the style of service and of course the food and wine!” he says.
The Grill Jichana lives up to these standards with an unparalleled ambience and an amazing restaurant to enjoy a meal and wine with friends and loved ones, offering guests the opportunity to bring their own wine with no corkage, and extremely competitive pricing on wines. The restaurant is also one of two restaurants in Durban offering auction wines. To make a reservation contact (031) 362 1300 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
