The Oude Libertas Amphitheatre at the Stellenbosch Slowmarket has a packed festive line-up in store for arts lovers in the coming weeks.
Included among the highlights are:
Sima Mashazi in ‘Her Story, My Voice – a Tribute to Miriam Makeba’, on December 1 at 8.15pm
In ‘Her Story, My Voice’, Mashazi pays tribute to a historical figure who spoke truth through her lyrics and gave hope to so many, amidst her own struggles. Expect world famous hits like ‘Phatha Phatha’ to less known gems like ‘Suliram’ (an Indonesian lullaby).
A rising star in SA, Sima Mashazi performed the role of the young Miriam in the first musical about Mama Africa that toured in the USA and SA. The experience deepened Mashazi’s admiration for Makeba’s music and the woman behind it. In this show Mashazi shares the themes in Makeba’s music and life that touched her and bear similarities to her own journey. Mashazi will include songs of her own that relate to Makeba’s story.
Just6 on December 2 at 8.15pm
The Acapella group Just6 are set to have their first performance ever in the Western Cape.
This proudly Southern African bunch, who hail from Soweto, Potchefstroom, Pretoria, Zimbabwe and Swaziland, will do their Acapella interpretations of music by Bob Marley, Hugh Masekele, Michael Jackson, Brenda Fassie and many more. Members Mtha Hospas, Ntuthuko Malaza, Kwande Cakata, Nkosie Hospas, Rashaka Mbevhana and Fezile Mavuso were drawn together in 2011 and made the choice to combine their unique individual talents to create one solidified entity they now proudly call Just 6.
