OneSight Acoustics: Goodluck

The 5th annual OneSight Acoustics series of music events is back, with its first event being headlined by GoodLuck. This event features comedian Rob van Vuuren as MC for the day, while audiences are entertained by live performances by GoodLuck, The Rudimentals, Ben Dey and The Concrete Lions and DJ Invizable. The Brass Bell offers discounts on food during the event.

Cape Farmhouse hosts another edition of their Farmhouse Rocks events, featuring performances by Los Tacos, Crimson House, Hezron Chetty and Mr DJ. Los Tacos are a Cape Town-based 8-piece up tempo Afro Latino fusion group who perform original music and revised Latino classics. High energy and sexy Latino dancing are expected from this group.

Christine Weir & The Kilts – Cafe Roux

Cafe Roux celebrates the Celtic festival of Samhain with a performance by Christine Weir and The Kilts. The event features Irish jigs, Scottish reels, traditional songs by Robbie Burns and specially penned songs to celebrate Samhain itself. Christine Weir and The Kilts boast a repertoire that inspires and delights Celtic music lovers. Guests are encouraged to come in a Kilt and enjoy the Samhain festivities.

Benjamin Jephta Akoustik Quartet

Benjamin Jephta, the Standard Bank Young Artist Award winner for Jazz, performs live with his newly formed quartet at the South African College of Music. He performs original jazz compositions interwoven with influences of hip-hop, rock and electronic music. The compositions have a strong African and gospel influence and the sound of the Cape where Jephta grew up.

Marriott Classic Music Festival in Franschhoek

The past 15 years has seen Christopher Duigan’s Music Revival delighting classical music fans with performances by the best musicians in the country. This year’s Mariott Classic Music Festival in Franschhoek continues this tradition. The programme features performances by The Juliet String Quartet and Justin Carter (clarinet), Darius Brubeck (piano) with Christopher Duigan (piano) and many more.

Reza Khota at Blah Blah Bar

Blah Blah Bar presents a live performance by South African guitarist, Reza Khota and his Jazz quartet.

Jazz group, the Reza Khota Quartet offers an inspiring sound that ties the tradition of jazz with contemporary approaches to music making. The quartet presents material from their debut album, Transmutation, as well as a few new tracks.

Ernestine Deane @ Ecco il Caffe

Ecco il Caffe and Heartbeat presents Ernestine Deane as the first headline act of the new Heartbeat Fridays, which features some of Cape Town’s top artists performing in an intimate setting. Deane is an urban African voice sharing ancient African stories. Well-known as the vocalist of iconic South African hip-hop band Moodphase5ive and respected as a solo artist in music, film and theatre performance.

Violin Sonatas with Amalia Hall and José Dias

The Cape Town Concert Series presents violinist Amalia Hall with pianist José Dias. Recently appointed as Concertmaster of Orchestra Wellington, Amalia Hall is widely recognised as one of the foremost young violinists to emerge from New Zealand, having received widespread acclaim for her ability to move audiences with her inherent musicality and natural facility. They will perform a popular programme of sonatas for violin and piano by Beethoven, Franck, Prokofiev and Sarasate.

Band Stand at Artscape

The Artscape Theatre play host to a number of young musicians to participate in this year’s Band Stand. Mentors facilitate workshops throughout the year which culminates into a grand mass band event on the theatre stage. 12 bands are selected through an audition process in order to take part in this 3 day festival, featuring different groups with every performance.

Music Evening: Liesl Stoltz & Jana vd Walt

Rust-en-Vrede Gallery hosts a music evening featuring Liesl Stoltz and Jana van der Walt. Pieces for flute and harp by Massenet, Debussy, Piazolla, Bizet, Ravel and more are performed by Stoltz on flute and van der Walt on the harp. Stoltz is a renowned soloist and chamber musician and Jana van der Walt is an ad hoc member of the Cape Philharmonic Orchestra, owner of harpNOTED and active orchestral harpist.

Afrikaans hiphop artist, Jitsvinger, launches the Jitsologie EP. The show features the infamous Salutas rapper, Youngsta and R&B Soul artist, Claire Phillips. Inspired by jazz, influenced by his love of Afrikaans and indigenous culture, passionate about social change and immersed within Hip Hop, Jitsvinger is more than just a rapper. Since his debut album Skeletsleutel in 2007, Jitsvinger has grown into a diverse performer, able to embrace multiple platforms.
