Baxter Dance Festival

The 13th annual Baxter Dance Festival aims to provide emerging and established choreographers and dance companies with an opportunity to present their work. The 2017 programme includes performances by Moving Into Dance Mophatong, Charlie van Rooyen, Desire Davids and choreography by Kirvan Fortuin and Mthuthuzeli November.

Artscape New Voices Season

The Artscape Theatre presents the New Voices Season, where original and never-before-staged productions are selected and showcased. These productions stage work that reflects society and celebrates the use of language, thereby excavating the buried stories and reclaiming their identity in the mainstream platforms on their own. The New Voices Programme seeks to give voice to new theatre makers, directors, choreographers, scriptwriters and creative expression, as well as restoring the dignity and confidence of artists of multiple creative expression.

Spring Rhapsody – Cape Town City Ballet 59

The Cape Town City Ballet presents Spring Rhapsody, a demonstration of the dancers “unparalleled ability to entertain in the idiom of classical dance in all its forms”. Robin van Wyk’s work written to George Gerschwin’s Stairway to Paradise is the main work on the programme, which also features a repeat of Ashley Killar’s Glazunov Variations. Other items include Spring Waters pas de deux, Johan Strauss’s Blue Danube and the Diane and Acteon pas de deux – a challenge to any dancer.

Hedy!: The Life & Inventions of Hedy Lamarr

Hedy!: The Life and Inventions of Hedy Lamarr, the award-winning, critically acclaimed NYC solo show based on a true story of Hollywood glamour and scientific genius. The play is written and performed by American actress and writer, Heather Massie, who plays Hedy Lamarr, a glamorous siren of the silver screen, who was more than The Most Beautiful Woman in the World. She invented Frequency Hopping and Spread Spectrum Technology that make the world of wireless communication tick.
