Enchanted has Local and international artists for cirque style showcase

The international cirque production – Enchanted – is currently on show in Green Point. Produced and directed by Sebastian Cassie, ‘Enchanted’ merges some of the world’s finest entertainment artists with a top South African creative team.

‘Enchanted’ is running for a limited season into mid October and is billed as “a thrilling cirque production with mesmerising acts that have never been seen before in South Africa”, performed in a 450 seater spiegeltent shipped directly from Belgium and constructed by renowned Belgian tent master Rik Klessens. Elements within include an interactive zone, VIP bars serving premium brands, an oyster and bubbly booth, an accessory store and delicious fare – promising a decadent night out in the Mother City.

Hosted by local comedienne Mel Jones and Piky Pokus from Argentina, acts lined up include crossbow contortionist and silk artist Orissa Kelly, cloud swing and hoop artist Tom McKinnon, laser and bubble master Thomas Favaro, a perfectly matched strength duo, singers and more.

Guests can look forward to being greeted by quirky ‘Enchanted’ artists, setting the tone for the night’s entertainment. After indulging on tapas platters and taking in the two-hour show, the resident DJ will take over and the audience can party with the cast, late into the night, if they so desire.

‘Enchanted’ brings the best of the spiegeltent shows that have preceded it, with an emphasis on artistry. All of the artists are international, world-class performers, and the show has a narrative running throughout in the style of nouveau-cirque productions.

Showcasting is headed up by Sebastian Cassie and Michael Carrigan. Having been involved in some of Australasia’s most successful circus shows, musical theatre and stage productions, the team has set up a local office in South Africa. “Having the opportunity to bring this enchanting and unique production to my home country is a dream fulfilled,” says Cassie, who hails from Cape Town, but grew up in New Zealand.

* ‘Enchanted’ will be presented for its limited season on P3 parking in Green Point, in front of the Cape Town Stadium (opposite McDonald’s). Performances are from Wednesdays to Fridays at 8pm, Saturdays at 3pm and 8pm and Sundays at 5pm.
