Die Boer introduces “sensory” gourmet food, wine and music evenings

When the owners of die Boer theatre restaurant in Durbanville, Jurgen Human and Margit Meyer-Rödenbeck, opened its doors 12 years ago, the plan was to create a 1-stop venue where the food, the wine and the atmosphere matched the quality of the shows. “We wanted to give our customers a special, all inclusive ‘sensory’ experience,” the duo has stated.

Taking this vision a step further, die Boer is now launching a new initiative: once every two months they will be introducing gourmet food, wine and music evenings, where chef Jean Louis will work in conjunction with some of the world class winemakers of and incorporating varietals from the Western Cape.

For the introductory gourmet evening at die Boer on Tuesday, September 5, the venue will pair their food with the wines of Nederburg. Telling diners more about this world famous estate and its wines on the evening will be Nederburg’s Annetjie Hopkins.

Hopkins has been involved with Nederburg for approximately 31 years, presenting informative tastings for individuals and groups at the winery based in Paarl. She also acts as a tour guide for both local and international groups, captivating them in the unique way she brings the Nederburg story to life. She has worked closely with many past Nederburg cellar-masters, including winemaking legends such as Günter Brӧzel, Newald Marais and Razvan Macici, as well as current cellar-master Andrea Freeborough. Many consider her a treasure trove of information when it comes to Nederburg’s award-winning wines and its illustrious history shaped over more than two centuries.

Providing the music and several “mouthwatering” stories will be the enigmatic Koos Kombuis and Schalk Joubert (bass).

* The evening will commence at 6.30pm for 7pm, and last until 10.30pm.

Cost is R350, all inclusive. To book, call 021 979 1911; or visit www.dieboer.com.
