KFM shakes up breakfast show

Darren “Whackhead” Simpson and Sherlin Barends make up the fresh 6 to 9am team of KFM’s all-new breakfast show when it launches on Monday, July 3.

Barends is a well-known media personality and is instantly recognisable thanks to her vibrant personality and trademark shaven head. She and Simpson, together with Sibongile Mafu on traffic and sport, will wake up KFM listeners across the Western Cape each weekday morning.

“Radio  has always been my first love,” says Barends. “The chance to move to KFM, and to work alongside the legendary Darren Simpson was an offer I couldn’t refuse. He’s one of the biggest names in SA radio and I’m looking forward to an incredible journey with him and the station.”

For Darren, the feeling is mutual: “I’m so excited to be joining KFM,” he says “and knowing I’ll have Sherlin and Sibs on the morning show team is adding to that excitement. There will be loads laughs with these two and even more important – we’re going to have a lot of fun with the awesome people of the Cape.”

Station management agrees that the audience is going to be a crucial part of the success of the new show.

“The connection with our listeners is the most important facet of a great radio station,” says CEO of Primedia Broadcasting Western Cape, Trish Taylor. “We’ve made sure this new line-up will maximise that audience relationship and appeal to existing as well as new listeners whilst playing the best music mix.”
