The 14th annual Suidoosterfees is set to take place from April 27 to May 1, 2017, with the theme Legends!
There will once again be something for everyone; drama, comedy, cabaret, dance and lots of free entertainment.
Productions will be presented at the Artscape Theatre.
Highlights to wet prospective festivalgoers’ appetites include: Pieter-Dirk Uys’ one man-memoir ‘Weerklink van ŉ Wanklank/The Echo of a Noise’; Bottomless Coffee Band; Gary Naidoo and Quanita Adams in ‘Music Legends Roulette’; Gloria Bosman, Vicky Sampson and Amanda Strydom in ‘Legendary Divas’; Elsabe Daneel and Fatima Dike in ‘MarimbaMakiti’; and even a brand new drama titled ‘Die Vlammende Fez’, with Chris van Niekerk, Loukmaan Adams, Carlo Daniels and a traditional Cape Malay singing group – to name but a few.
The theme for the 2016 festival was‘District 6’, in honour of the destruction of the multicultural neighborhood more than 50 years ago.
Among the productions that festivalgoers enjoyed were David Kramer’s ‘Onder die Spanspekgeel Maan’; Shaleen Surtie Richards in ‘Die Woema van ‘n Windgat wyfie’; Laurika Rauch and Elvis Blue in ‘Hart & See’; and a new drama ‘Kristalvlakte’, directed by Amy Jephta, who will once again be featured at the 2017 festival with the production ‘Soldaat’.
