A week of exciting gigs await jazz lovers at The Crypt

The Crypt Jazz Restaurant plays host to some of Cape Town and the rest of the country’s most celebrated, in demand jazz artists and session specialists, week in, week out. Patrons can expect a relaxed atmosphere while dining on a menu that features items such as Traditional Dutch Bitterballen; Fig and Gorgonzola Tart; Nguni grass-fed, Karoo Aged Rump Steak; and The Crypt’s Famous Big 5 Cheese Platter, while listening to contemporary and classic jazz played with passion.

Enjoy an evening in the company of SA vocal legend Sylvia “Mama Kaap” Mdunyelwa. Accompanying her are George Werner on piano; Norman Saul on bass; and Stix Mrwebi on drums.

The popular Manouche is a gypsy jazz band, creating swing in the style of the thirties and the Paris based Hot Club de France. Catch vocalist Anneli Kamfer, Bernard Kotze on guitar, Sarah Blake on bass/vocals and Renee Olmstead on violin. See what the buzz is about.

Virtuoso saxophonist Willie van Zyl with good old swing from the 1920s and 1930s joins vocalist Erika Lundi, Charles Lazar on double bass, Ivan Bell on drums, Willy Haubrich on trumpet/trombone and Derk Blaisse on piano.

Jam Session
Every Tuesday great musicians from all over the Cape, as well as from overseas, come to The Crypt for the weekly jam sessions, always with a special guest. This time Durban-based vocalist Chloe Clark will be joining the Jam Band with Alvin Dyers on guitar, Roy Davids on drums and Tino Europa on bass.

From collaborations with local artist Mandoza to the world renowned saxophonist Gerald Albright, Durban born Natalie Rungan has carved out an illustrious career for herself. The Crypt will be hosting this bright talent for the second time on their stage, accompanied by Bruce Baker on drums and Mark Fransman on piano.
