New production for children features the most unlikely superhero

Johannesburg: Kindertheatre in Emmarentia is presenting the first in a series of plays about Granny Susan, a rather unlikely superhero. The final performance out of three will be on Saturday, October 1, at 10am.
Granny Susan is just like any other grandmother. She likes to knit, bake cookies, listen to the radio…and save the world.

‘The Granny Susan Incredible’ series was written and is performed by Avril Cummins. Cummins’ other plays include ‘Bucket List’, a zany one-woman show which was featured at the 2016 National Arts Festival. Her background in improvisation and physical theatre come through strongly in the ‘Granny Susan’ plays. Her theatre company, HeyJanice Productions (www.heyjanice.co.za) offers performances and workshops at schools in a variety of different styles, genres and skills.
Director of ‘Introducing: Granny Susan Incredible’, is Toni Morkel (‘Tobacco and the Harmful effects Thereof’; ‘Heart’s Hotel’), who is no stranger to the South African theatre scene.
