The spectacular and odd world of Ripley’s Believe It or Not! has returned to South Africa for the first time since Robert Ripley himself travelled the continent more than 80 years ago.
Ripley’s legendary compendium of oddities, anomalies and fantastic feats will be on display at the Clock Tower, V&A Waterfront, from October 1 to April 30.
Visitors to the exhibition, seasonally titled ‘Ripley’s Believe It Or Not! Summer Attraction’, can look forward to more than 170 artefacts displayed in distinctively designed themed areas.
The exhibition is built with numerous, individually themed display pods. Each pod contains artefacts, digital interactives, and graphic elements unique to the subject matter covered.
“In 1933, Mr. Ripley undertook one of his longest trips from Cairo to South Africa. It was a two-month trip, highly publicised, where people flocked to him with their oddities.
Ripley’s is excited about bringing our brand back to South Africa and its people, in the form of a travelling show at South African malls, filled with over 100 oddities from the Ripley collection, including five original pen and ink cartoon panels, drawn by Ripley on location in Africa, in the 1930’s,” says Edward Meyer, Vice President Archives & Exhibits, Ripley Entertainment Inc.
The collection covers everything from history, to zoology, to geography, art, sports, politics, celebrities, dinosaurs and even outer space.
Opening times: 9am to 9pm
Cost: R150 to R175
