Cape Town City Ballet to bring fairy tale classic vividly to life

Ballet lovers can look forward to the magic of the timeless story of ‘The Sleeping Beauty’. This exquisite ballet will be presented by the Cape Town City Ballet from 2 to 18 September at the Artscape Opera House. The Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra, under the baton of Maestro Brandon Phillips, can be heard at selected performances.

Hikaru Kobayashi and David Moore, top dancers with the British Royal Ballet and the Stuttgart Ballet respectively, will appear as guest artists in the lead roles of Aurora and the Prince at two performances. The other eight performances are shared by Cape Town City Ballet’s Laura Bosenberg and Thomas Thorne; Angela Hansford and Daniel Szybkowski, while Cleo Ames will be partnered by Conrad Nusser.

As good triumphs over evil, the Lilac Fairy is danced by Kim Vieira, Rosamund Ford and Claire Spector. The role of the evil Carabosse will be shared by Johnny Bovang and Mervyn Williams.
It promises to be a wonderful fairy-tale ballet for the whole family, with evocative sets and costumes and Tchaikovsky’s sensational score.

Tickets range from R90 to R300 and can be booked through Computicket, or Artscape Dial-a-Seat on 021 421 7695.
