Twelve singers, mainly from the Western Cape, have joined the nearly 80 who have already arrived from around the world to complete in the next rounds of the 35th international Hans Gabor Belvedere Singing Competition, which will be taking place at the Baxter Concert Hall on Monday and Tuesday, June 27 and 28.
Some 50 of them will go through to the semi-finals, also being held at the Baxter on Wednesday and Thursday, June 29 and 30. 15 of the contestants are expected to then make the final round, which will be held at the Artscape Opera House, on Saturday, July 2, at 6pm, where they will sing with the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of Kamal Khan.
The finals are being directed by Cape Town Opera’s Christine Crouse.
