The 22nd annual South African Music Awards took place on Saturday, June 4, at the Durban Chief Luthuli International Convention Centre in a display of glitz and glam. Celebrities, artists and musicians displayed their take on fashion and style on the red carpet. Hosts Somizi Mhlongo and Thando Thabete kept their distance from the media until the actual event started, but got the crowds roaring as they casually picked on some of the artists.
Long trains, fitted dresses and bling made its mark again this year with some of the celebrities going the extra mile in low cut necklines and daring slits.
Besides the long acceptance speeches by the winners, the organizers had to be praised for their well run ceremony. The awards were fair and honoured all deserving winners. The night ended off with a huge after party where all the artists joined in to celebrate their win.

These were my favourites on the red carpet:

AKA – A rather dashing looking artist in a Tiger of Sweden suit, which was neatly tailored to suit his frame and was ideal for an event like this.

Nadia-Nakai

Nadia Nakai – This creation by Sauvemaxia was a little bit daring, with high side slits and a very low cleavage, but the star was graceful and confident on the red carpet.

Nomuzi-Mabena

Nomuzi Mabena – This beautiful, teal embroidered dress was just about the perfect garment for the evening. With just a hint of sheer and a detailed peplum style top, the rapper looked stunning.

Riky-Rick

Riky Rick – I really could not understand what happened here but Ricky Rick went for a casual, edgy, trendy look with a sheer embroidered shirt and did not wear his usual vest. He paired this with striking black denim cut at the knees to possibly create a comfortable hip-hop look.
