“Shop outdoors with the sun on your skin and the wind in your hair, and buy local goods made by Jozi artisans.” So punts the Jozi Real Food Market owner, Ingrid Goncalves. “It’s a great way to spend a Saturday morning catching up with old friends, out in the open or under the trees! Kids and dogs are welcome, and there is plenty of play space for everyone”, she adds.
There is sport on big screens and patrons can enjoy a variety of craft beers in the pub. In a word, there will be food, craft and live entertainment.
Jozi Market stall holders trade under a collection of umbrellas on the lawns of the Pirates Sports Club. The market isn’t large, which adds to its charm. Local artisans will meet and greet patrons with their focus to help and educate, whilst providing samples to try before you buy.
Some of the stalls to choose from are ‘All About Muesli’ offering a variety of low GI mueslis as well as a honey baked granola, dark chocolate-covered goji berries and a variety of dried fruit and nuts. ‘Heartwood Smokehouse’ offers wood-smoked bacon rolls with freshly roasted and brewed coffee from ‘Green Bean Coffee’. The ‘Green Bean Roastery’ is based at the Casalinga Restaurant in Muldersdrift, and offers a variety of African coffee roasted-to- order. Other ‘on-site’ nibbles include sweet and savoury pancakes from ‘Marcel’s House of Crepes’, samoosas, and hot dogs. There are numerous other products on offer such as artisan breads, organic coffee, organic fruit, veggies, eggs, cakes and bakes, food and drink, inspired cuisine, arts & crafts, pet products, jewellery and shoes.
* Entrance is free. The Jozi Real Food Market is at 25 Braeside Road, Greenside, Johannesburg on Saturdays from 8.30am to 1pm. Call 083 532 2992 for more information.
