I simply love juicing fruits and vegetables. So many of the vitamins, minerals and enzymes our bodies need can be found in the pure form in the juice of raw fruits and vegetables.
I started taking juicing seriously eight years ago when I underwent a very big operation and needed to give my digestive organs a rest. How can one do that without sacrificing the vital nutrition your body needs? The only way to juice for me is to do it at the time you want to consume it – this way the nutritional contents are not compromised.
If you juice and drink straight away, the air won’t get in and cause it to oxidize, but one is not always so fortunate to be able to juice and drink straight away, so the sooner you can seal the juice and get it into the fridge the better – there are still some health benefits to be had.
When you juice you can use everything that grows. One does sometimes get stumped for ideas of what to put together for the best result.
I have found a lovely book called ‘Alkaline Juices and Smoothies’ by Dr Stephan Domenig and it has over 75 rebalancing juices, smoothies and teas in it. There is a great seven-day detox plan. I particularly found the Sweet Potato Smoothie interesting, as well as The Potassium Broth and Vegetable Tea.
In the book Dr Domenig states that a healthy diet means eating a balance of acidic and alkaline foods and is heavily weighted towards foods that tend to be acid-forming. ‘Alkaline Juices and Smoothies’ presents an easy-to-follow way to cleanse your system and repair that imbalance.
The definitive plan will guide you in a seven-day journey to wellbeing, encourage the natural process of weight loss, increase energy and vitality and begin to restore your body to its natural rhythms.
The destructive effects of the modern acidic diet are combated through a judicious menu of green smoothies, fresh juices and satisfying drinks. The detox plan can be followed for seven consecutive days, but even one or two days a week will yield benefits.
The book covers getting prepared, the 1-7 day alkaline cleanse, and of course all the fabulous juice and smoothie recipes. So as he says, “Grab your juicer and get involved in this easy, tasty and super-healthy alkaline cleanse.” Your body and your taste buds will thank you.
