Grape fun awaits at Ommiberg harvest festival

The annual Ommiberg (Round the Rock) festival is on March 5 in the Boland.  The 14 participating members range from wine destinations to lesser known family farms and boutique wineries. In celebration of the harvest season that is currently in full swing, each venue will present harvest-related activities and offer their young wines to sample.
Younger visitors will enjoy special kids activities including jumping castles, face painting, balloon twisting, petting zoos, lawn games, waterslides, pony rides, tractor rides, treasure hunts, puppet shows and a mechanical bull.

The festival programme also includes an entertainment line-up of live music by local acts.
Some of the artists that will be in action are Bottomless Coffee, Newton & Co, Ben Dey & the Concrete Lions, Slow Jack, Tequila, Sterling EQ and Loki Rothman.

Many of the venues have created menus ranging from breakfasts feasts to lunch specials, food stalls, pop-up delis and food stands as well as gourmet fast food. There will be a selection of snacks from tapas, meat and cheese platters, footlong cheese grillers, vegetarian wraps and boerewors rolls.  There is also a potjiekos competition as well as popcorn, slush puppies and ice cream.
Check the programme on www.ommiberg.co.za for special activities such as vinotherapy food massages, master tasting sessions, wine blending and cellar tours.

The more actively inclined can enter the Run the Vines trail run or the Ride the Vines MTB challenge.
Tickets are available online at www.webtickets.co.za. Tickets can also be purchased on the day at participating farms for R150 per person.
Kids under 18 must be accompanied by an adult and enter for free. The Ommiberg Festival Pass includes entry to the various participating farms, a tasting glass and free participation at events as indicated.
