Following on from the 5th South African International Ballet Competition (SAIBC) in Cape Town, spectacular ballet is once again coming to Gauteng in March when dancers and guest artists from the competition will perform at the Brooklyn Theatre in Pretoria on Tuesday and Wednesday, March 1 and 2.
The ballet galas, to be presented first at Artscape in Cape Town on Sunday, February 28, to mark the close of the 2016 SAIBC, will feature star Gauteng dancer Leroy Mokgatle with the Art of Motion company and the Korean Youth Ballet Stars, who have returned to South Africa after first performing here in 2014. Representing the best of South Korea’s internationally applauded young ballet dancers, the Korean Youth
Ballet Stars will present a programme that includes highlights from ballet classics such as ‘The Sleeping Beauty’, ‘La Sylphide’, ‘Don Quixote’, ‘Harlequinade’, ‘La Bayadère’ and ‘Diana and Acteon’.
In addition to the young dancers from Korea, audiences at the Brooklyn Theatre will have the rare opportunity to see two major stars on the international ballet circuit, Adiarys Almeida and Jonhal Fernandez. Appearing in two ballet show stoppers, including the legendary ‘Black Swan Pas de Deux’ from ‘Swan Lake’, Adiarys and Fernandez will bring their acclaimed artistry and virtuoso technique to the South African stage.
Also in the gala line-up will be two Cuban competitors who will have taken part in the South African International Ballet Competition.
* Performances will commence at 8pm.
