Mozambican sax man releases first live album

Multi award-winning Mozambican saxophonist Moreira Chonguica has released his sixth album, ‘Live at the Polana’, under his Morestar Entertainment label. This is the artist’s first live album.
Recorded at the famous 5 star Polana Serena Hotel in Maputo during Moreira’s concert series MoreJazz 4 in 2014, this album features Swaziland’s Tlale Makhene on percussion, Ernest Dawkins from Chicago, USA on alto sax, Mozambican vocalist, Isabel Novella and his band comprising Botswana’s Bokani Dyer on keyboards, Mozambican Helder Gonzaga on bass, South African Kevin Gibson on drums and Ronan Skillen on percussion and tablas.

“I am very grateful to the skills of Rui Guerreiro, who recorded this album so beautifully. We have wanted to record a live album for a long time as all my shows are different and it was wonderful to capture the live dynamism of a truly great group of Southern African musicians on this occasion,” says Moreira.
This multicultural fusion of polyrhythms exudes the energy and power that is customary at Moreira’s stage shows. After five studio albums, this new album gives the listener a sense of what to expect at one of the artist’s shows.
