AUSSIE: The Australian Circus Spectacular will be touring South Africa during the next couple of months. Sun International has teamed up with the makers of the acclaimed Great Moscow Circus and Great Euro Circus, Weber Bros Entertainment, to bring the daring and slightly insane performers to our neck of the woods and they will be travelling the length and breadth of the country until May 22. They have a date with Cape Town at the Grand Arena at GrandWest Casino this weekend and beyond, from Friday to Tuesday, February 12 to 16.
Amongst the Sun International venues that will be transformed for the circus shows are Carnival City’s Big Top Arena in Ekurhuleni, The Boardwalk’s Festival Lawns in Port Elizabeth, Windmill Casino and Entertainment World in Bloemfontein, Crawford College lawns under the Circus Big Top hosted by Sibaya Casino in Durban, and The Carousel in Hammanskraal near Pretoria.
AUSSIE blends traditional cirque, vaudevillian slapstick comedy, and modern extreme stunts; showcasing the off-beat, cheeky, daring, and boisterous nature of the Australian spirit.
This is the first time that ‘AUSSIE’ has visited foreign soil in its international tour, and it promises to leave audiences in awe with the cast performing unbelievable feats. Highlights of the show include one of the world’s few surviving human cannonball acts that is performed by an expert stuntman Luiz Daza, who has literally flown over audiences seven days a week during the sellout run of the Great Euro Circus in Australia.
Another attraction is the dizzying Globe of Death act, which features up to five motorbike riders circling a daring dancer with Mad Max style bravado before the sphere splits in half, and thrilling freestyle motor cross stunts during which riders reach gut wrenching heights beneath the circus Big Top.
Between these death-defying stunts, a troupe of equally daring Aussies will perform feats of human endurance, skill and strength. From the Queen of the Silks, Kiarnna; vaudevillian performer and slapstick comedian, Val De Fun, the illusion of the salsa-dancing quick-change act, to the duo pole performance by Edison and Giselle, audiences can look forward to being mesmerized.
* Tickets, starting from R150 per person, are on sale at Computicket.
