Fourth Annual Jazz & Blues Weekend around the corner

The Auto & General Theatre on the Square in Sandton will again be red hot and blue for the start of its annual jazz Weekend at the end of January. Tony Yoko by arrangement with the theatre will be hosting a line-up of outstanding international and local jazz artists for what promises to be a memorable musical weekend.

Friday, January 29 at 8pm
‘The Blues & Beyond’
A night of high energy music laced with anecdotes and stories from the world of blues and beyond.
‘The Blues & Beyond’ features guitarist/vocalist Mike Rowe, plus the talents of Dobro guitarist Wayne Coughlan, Gerald Louw on electric bass and drummer Terry Hunt with a “surprise” guest.

January 30 at 8pm
‘Red Hot & The Blues’
Sail up the Mississippi with swinging stops in Memphis, Kansas City and Chicago including some side trips to New York and other interesting places.
Featuring the inimitable U.S. entertainer and multi-instrumentalist Michael Canfield and His Band, complimented by the talents of Guitarist Alistair Coakley, Bassist Cesare Cassarino, Saxophonist Thomas Dancer, Pianist Bobby Pashovski and the passionate voice of Nicole Theron.

January 31 at 4pm
‘A Jazz Showcase’
Anthony Yoko, jazz drummer and producer of ‘Jazz & Blues Weekend’ will present this showcase featuring jazz singers Hannah Foster and Andrew Massey, performing a variety of swinging jazz standards and ‘duets’ from the American Song Book and more.
Plus the talents of Pianist and Arranger David Cousens; with Bassist Graeme Currie, Drummer Anthony Yoko and the outstanding U.K. Jazz Trumpeter Bob Wade.
