Sun International has teamed up with the makers of the acclaimed Great Moscow Circus and Great Euro Circus to bring ‘AUSSIE: The Australian Circus Spectacular’ to South Africa in February. The daring and slightly insane performers will travel the length and breadth of the country from February 12 to May 22.
Amongst the Sun International venues that will be transformed for the circus shows are Carnival City’s Big Top Arena in Ekurhuleni, GrandWest’s Grand Arena in Cape Town, The Boardwalk’s Festival Lawns in Port Elizabeth, Windmill Casino and Entertainment World in Bloemfontein, Crawford College lawns under the Circus Big Top hosted by Sibaya Casino in Durban, and The Carousel in Hammanskraal near Pretoria.
This is the first time that ‘AUSSIE’ has visited foreign soil in its international tour, and it promises to leave audiences in awe with the cast performing unbelievable feats. Highlights of the show include one of the world’s few surviving human cannonball acts that is performed by an expert stuntman Luiz Daza, who has literally flown over audiences seven days a week during the sellout run of the Great Euro Circus in Australia.
Another attraction is the dizzying Globe of Death act, which features up to five motorbike riders circling a daring dancer with Mad Max style bravado before the sphere splits in half, and thrilling freestyle motor cross stunts during which riders reach gut wrenching heights beneath the circus Big Top.
Between these death-defying stunts, a troupe of equally daring Aussies will perform feats of human endurance, skill and strength. From the Queen of the Silks, Kiarnna; vaudevillian performer and slapstick comedian, Val De Fun, the illusion of the salsa-dancing quick-change act, to the duo pole performance by Edison and Giselle, audiences can look forward to being mesmerized.
“‘AUSSIE’ is world class family entertainment that will have South Africans on the edge of their seats. This is a modern and exclusively human, feel good circus spectacular that blends stunning cirque style acrobatics, hilarious vaudevillian antics and extreme, high octane stunts that reflect the offbeat nature of Australians,” says Lara Horvath, Group Entertainment Manager: Sun International.
