South African theatre legend Malcolm Terrey can be seen in the guise of British ‘Carry On’ star Kenneth Williams in ‘Just CARRY ON William!’, showing at the Studio Theatre, Montecasino, from Wednesday, December 9, to January 17.
The show is based on Richmal Crompton’s ‘Just William’ stories and directed by Alan Swerdlow.
In the very early Eighties, the comedy genius that was Kenneth Williams (“Oo-er, Matron!”) slipped into a studio to begin a legendary series of recordings of Richmal Crompton’s stories of the naughtiest boy in the land, William Brown.
Just William, as he has been known and loved for more than seventy years, and his gang, The Outlaws, battle elderly aunts, simpering sisters, testy teachers and furious farmers and other residents of their village, including the monstrous, lisping Violet Elizabeth Bott.
In the humorous tradition of ‘Jeeves And Wooster’, Terrey, regarded as one of South Africa’s most versatile comedians, will bring to life Williams and all the riotous mayhem of Just William’s adventures. ‘Just Carry On William’ is enough to make comedy fans “Thcream and Thcream until (they’re) Thick” with laughter.
