The future of live action gaming has come to Jozi

Black Ops Advanced Tactical Laser Tag officially launched in Johannesburg recently in Randburg, taking mission-specific gaming to a whole new level.

Forget the usual laser tag gaming paraphernalia of black lights and cheesy plastic guns. Black Ops takes players out of the virtual worlds of today’s most popular video games and lets them compete in real world environments.

This isn’t your ordinary laser tag center with plastic gear and black lit arenas. It is a live game, placing players in the most realistic combat environment available.

Black Ops is powered by the newest U.S. Military-spec, projectile-less, training platform currently deployed with the FBI, the U.S. Army, and tactical training academies around the world. It offers the most advanced laser combat system in the world (also used by the NYPD) all experienced in an ultra-realistic indoor Hollywood movie set playing field consisting of over 30 rooms, 2 stories, and 6 different neighbourhoods. The sounds and environmental lighting are lifelike – you will hear bullets, bombs, helicopters and explosives.

There are 21 missions – from Black Hawk Down, S.W.A.T and Domestic Threat to Judge Dread, Reaper and Sniper. Some are focus on team work, others on strategy, and some on individual domination.

Participants need to be strategic when playing. Players are placed in special teams and have specific functions, duties, titles and roles. On the first mission a player might be in command of a team escorting a high-ranking official and on the next mission be a sharp shooter hiding in a snipers nest. Missions and scoring are displayed and controlled in real time with state-of-the-art software for the entire world to see. Player accounts track scores, so rankings display who is the best of the best across the world. Black Ops replaces the “Honour System” with hi-tech software that tracks every hit and kill – no more cheating.
