The true rebels of ballroom, Burn the Floor, are back in Jozi with a new production. ‘Burn The Floor – Fire in the Ballroom’ will run on the Mandela stage for a limited season from Wednesday, September 16, to October 3.
‘Strictly Come Dancing’ runner up, JOHANNES RADEBE, has joined the cast as a fully-fledged member of this international dance sensation.
PETER TROMP had a chat with the super excited dancer on the eve of the show’s run.
How did you feel when you heard that you landed a part in ‘Burn the Floor’?
It was an affirmation to say dreams come true. For as long as ‘Burn The Floor’ has been around I’ve wished to be part of it and now that it’s happening it’s surreal. I am humbled and grateful for this opportunity and extremely proud and excited about it.
What can audiences look forward to with the show?
A fun, new, exciting reinvention of ballroom and Latin American dancing, with elements of different dance styles. The show appeals to all ages, is captivating, current, sexy and passionate – you don’t want to miss it. It’s “Gloriously Sinful”.
The show is known to be the “world’s toughest dance show”. What were the preparations like?
Discipline and passion drives us. It’s 10 to 12 hours a day, six days a week, of intense dancing and physical training. We are the fittest bunch of dancers and there’s no stopping, because you’re surrounded by world champs. We even dance in our hotel rooms at night after rehearsals as there’s no room for error, hence the world class standard.
You and Leigh-Anne Williams took audiences on quite an adventure on ‘Strictly Come Dancing’. What was that experience like and what did you gain from it?
Leigh-Anne was God sent. Our partnership was based on respect and love. She encouraged and inspired me daily to reach for my dreams and believe in myself. I’m now more confident to go out into the world and blaze my own trail. The ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ experience was phenomenal – she brought light into my life.
What are your future ambitions?
Travel the world, learn and gather as much information as possible about dancing in order to come back and share with my people back home.
