Kau to perform the jokes he made famous at The Lyric

On Friday, September 4, Gold Reef City will bring one of South Africa’s most seasoned comedians, David Kau, to The Lyric at Gold Reef City. The one-man show entitled ‘David Kau Live – Mo Jokes’ will be a continuation of his DVD titled ‘I did these Jokes first’.

Fans can look forward to humorous accounts of Kau’s childhood, as well as some of his experiences while travelling the world.

Kau kick-started his career at the 1998 Smirnoff Comedy Festival in Cape Town when he became the first black comedian to take the stage at this prestigious event. In 2005, he performed his ‘Blacks Only’ comedy show, which was intended to be a one-night-only affair. The popularity and success of the show exceed all expectation and in due course, it became a regular nation-wide show which he still performs today. Ten years later the ‘Blacks Only’ show continues to feature guest appearances by up-and-coming stand-up comedians such as Chris Mapane, Skhumba Hlophe and Sifiso Nene.

“David has reached legendary status in the South African comedy industry”, says Gold Reef City Marketing Manager, Gareth Kaschula. “We are proud to be hosting a comedian of his calibre and have no doubt that our guests will enjoy the controversial humour which David has become known for.
