Retail at the ready at Woolworths’ new Canal Walk store


Woolworths is raising the bar for South African retail with the opening of a new, multi-faceted outlet at the Canal Walk shopping centre in Cape Town this weekend.

Innovations include a café with heated floors and a dedicated coffee station where customers can blend their own, personalised coffee.

The food area has been expanded to over 1500 m² to include a new butchery counter, where biltong can be sliced just the way customers like it. A resident fishmonger will not only help shoppers choose what fish to buy, but also expertly skin and fillet it, and the on-site bakery will produce just-out-of-the-oven baguettes, pastries and confectionery.

In the clothing section, floor space for textiles has been expanded to over 2800 m² on the ground floor alone. This houses an enormous range of premium brand children’s, men’s and women’s clothing, including Witchery, Mimco and Country Road for kids. There is now a far wider range of active wear, while many brands, such as RE:, JT One and Distractions lingerie, have shops within the store.

As for beauty, express nail bar Foxbox, and Eyecandy, who provide treatments such as brow grooming and lash extensions, have their own stations, supplementing ever-popular services such as makeovers at beauty counters. There are also over 400 new beauty and toiletry products located within the foods market that will be offered in addition to Woolworths’ own brand items.

Homeware and bathroom products include high-end local craft and design including Ngwenya glassware from Swaziland, a capsule collection by Ruan Hoffman and ceramic products that are ideal for summer entertaining. Woolworths’ Good Business Journey is always a key focus, and there is bed linen and bath towels made using eco-friendly bamboo cotton, and sustainable fillings for duvet and pillow inners made from recycled plastic bottles.

The new store opens on Saturday, August 29, with plenty to excite the whole family. A taste team will host a live cook-off and there will be sneak previews of upcoming spring/summer collections. Located on the upper and lower level (UL 267), the store is open from 9am to 9pm
