Northgate Shopping centre proudly hosts over 160 tenants, ample parking, an ice-rink and plenty of choice when it comes to food and fashion, making it an ideal family destination. The mall is currently undergoing a significant refurbishment, and its new look, in its entirety, will be completed just in time for the Centre’s annual Face of the North Competitions. Who knows, perhaps your child could be this year’s “Face of the North”.
There are three competitions categories, namely the Baby Competition, the Junior Face of the North, and the Face of the North.
This annual competition, held by Northgate Shopping Centre, began in 2010 and showcases young lads and ladies, giving them an opportunity to grab their 15 minutes of fame in the limelight, and importantly, build confidence and a stronger sense of self. And, to support those less fortunate, a portion of the funds raised is donated to local shelters. “It is great to see the kids up on the stage lapping up all the attention, feeling fantastic and having such fun. It is also so important to leverage off such an event to give back to our community,” says Natalie Berkhout, Marketing Manager of Northgate Shopping Centre. She encourages any child to participate.
Since day one, Events by Hanlery has partnered with this family-orientated shopping centre to ensure the event is a greater success each year. Valria Ferreira, Event Coordinator, says that the event also aims to create a platform that will allow the winners to possibly enter bigger competitions in the future, perhaps even pageants such as Miss SA, or even explore public speaking or other such positions. “We want the winners from this event to go forward and set an example in their community by showing that events like these are not just about beauty, but about brains and a caring nature, too,” adds Ferreira.
Berkhout points out that the event also brings many more feet into the mall over the weekend as many moms, dads, family members, friends and the general public come to participate or watch and enjoy the show, particularly as there is fun entertainment for the kids of all ages, as well as live entertainment, each year showcasing something special. This year, on the weekend of the finals, Jonny Apple himself will be performing and for the littlies there will be face-painting, balloon-sculpting and bead-making. There are also tonnes of prizes on offer, and the grand prizes include weekend family getaways to special places far and near.
The competition is open to those between 0 and 28 years of age – anybody can enter and everyone is welcome. Entry forms can be collected and submitted at Northgate Shopping Centre, Centre Management. Competition finals take place on September 5 and 6 in the Cotton On Court in Northgate Shopping Centre.
