Gauteng, are you ready for 65000 fresh, succulent oysters?

The 10th Oyster, Wine & Food Festival will be taking place from Friday to Sunday, May 29 to 31, at Montecasino. Due to the popularity of the Festival in the past, the organisers have added a third day to ensure that no one misses out.

The event, an established firm favourite event crowned as Gauteng’s largest Oyster Festival, promises to deliver 65000 succulent oysters flown in from Knysna; 300 different wines from 32 wine estates; gallons of beer and enough gourmet food offered by more than 30 exhibitors.
This year the festival has a new home. “Having the Oyster, Wine & Food Festival at Montecasino is an exciting development and a perfect fit for us,” says Glenn Joseph, General Manager of Montecasino. “We are a mecca for food and wine lovers in Gauteng with our large range of culinary offerings as well as several well-known annual food and wine festivals that have been delighting our visitors for many years.

This new festival will add another lovely dimension to our foodie line-up. It will no doubt be a great success and will be thoroughly enjoyed by all patrons.”
Throughout the years this festival has attracted festival-goers from far and wide, ranging from young to old, a vibrant and diverse crowd returning each time to experience and participate in the fun.
The festival has grown from strength to strength with a focus on up-market quality and variety at a pocket-friendly rate.

Whether you wish to taste of the hundreds of diverse and interesting wines on offer, sip some bubbly or enjoy your favourite beer, doing pairings with fresh succulent oysters (you could even dress the oyster up with Ol’Faithful, namely Lemon, Black Pepper and Tabasco; or A l’il Tangy: Onion Vinaigrette; or what about a Sushi Oyster, prepared with Wasabi, Soy Sauce and Pickled Ginger) or just laze around and catch some fine tunes, there is bound to be something even the most eclectic of tastes.
“We specialise in showcasing hand-picked wines and gourmet foods that are presented by local citizens.

We celebrate the perfect pairing – a party in the mouth,” says Judith Lee from Full Volume Events, joint-festival organiser. “Taste the perfect oyster with a crisp bubbly, drink an opulent red wine with a bite of smoked meat or sample a ripe Brie with an astringent Sauvignon Blanc.
We invite all foodies, wine lovers, beer drinkers and total beginners for a memorable gastronomic experience,” adds Lee.
Fresh oysters, along with grilled prawns will be abundantly available for famished festival-goers. This year medium oysters (available at all Oyster Factories) will be sold for R15 each and the popular jumbo oysters (available at Champagne and Oyster Deck) for R30 each at a dedicated station.

* Festival entrance fee is R125 per person, which includes a wine tasting glass.
Book at Tickets will also be available at the door. Children under 18 years can enter for free if accompanied by an adult.
Festival times: Friday – 3pm to 8pm; Saturday 11am to 8pm; Sunday – 11am to 5pm.
