The Whisky Live Showroom, South Africa’s premier boutique whisky tasting experience, will be taking place at 012 Central in Pretoria on Thursday and Friday, May 14 and 15.
This intimate showcase of more than 80 expressions of whisky will give fans of the dram the opportunity to sample some of the most premium and intriguing whisky expressions yet seen in South Africa.
“We have chosen 012 Central as the ideal venue for the first Whisky Live Showroom in Pretoria because it is in the heart of Tshwane’s urban renewal programme,” says Emily Stockden, COO of Whisky Live Festival. “It’s an edgy, exciting new venue that will offer Showroom visitors an unequalled tasting experience, giving them the opportunity to sample their favourite dram – or try a new one – in a brand new city hotspot that reflects the versatile contemporary nature of the water of life.”
Familiar favourites from the House of Walker, Chivas Regal, The Glenlivet, The Balvenie and Glenfiddich will be available for tasting at the Pretoria Whisky Live Showroom, among others. Glenbrynth, a newcomer to the Showroom experience, will present six expressions, including its 40 year old single malt.
A selection of peated whiskies is also newly available at the showroom including favourites from Laphroaig and Bowmore. Other expressions available for tasting include Glenrothes, The Macallan, Bunnahabhain, Glenmorangie, Lagavulin, Caol Ila, Tomatin and Smokehead.
Not only will the various whiskies be available for tasting, several brands will offer special deals at the event. Kavalan is offering a 10% discount on orders placed at the Showroom, while on-the-spot payment for Kavalan will yield a free miniature to take home.
Those purchasing more than two bottles of this Taiwanese whisky will take home a free 200ml bottle, putting this award-winning expression at their fingertips (and taste buds) straight away.
Even though the Whisky Live Showroom is all about whisky, the event will introduce Innis & Gunn craft beers to the Pretoria market. These beers are brewed at low temperatures using bespoke ale malts, and are matured in casks previously used for aging Kentucky bourbon – thus bringing the worlds of whisky and beer together in a pint.
Twisp Electronic Cigarettes, The Cigar Club and Prestige Cosmetics are participating in the Whisky Live Showroom too, giving visitors a broader lifestyle experience while they are enjoying the spirit of the evening with family, friends or business associates.
* Tickets to the Whisky Live Showroom cost R170 each on www.whiskylivefestival.co.za and include a complimentary tasting glass, a bottle of Valpré spring water, and 15 tasting vouchers. The first 500 visitors through the doors each night will receive a free copy of the 2015 Whisky Handbook, and those registering for the Whisky Live Fan Club at the event will receive an extra five tasting vouchers, or R20 cash back on their ticket price.
