Autumn art at Grande Provence

Art enthusiasts can start autumn on a high note in Franschhoek with A L (L) E E N, an exhibition of thought provoking two and three dimensional pieces by visual artist Shany van den Berg, opening on March 8, at The Gallery at Grande Provence Heritage Wine Estate.
“A lifetime of meeting artists has taught me that their appearance and manner is almost always antithetical to their work, but Shany is her art made flesh – austere and beautiful, fiercely intelligent, composed and elegant but with flashes of earthy humour, she could have stepped live from one of her paintings,” says Trent Read, Director of The Gallery.

Shany van den Berg is well-known for her technical acumen, subtle symbolism and agility in slipping between figuration and abstraction, refusing to rest easy on her creative laurels. Having exhibited locally and abroad, her works are included in private collections around the globe, including London, France, Germany and America.
“Watching an artist celebrate life and creation as they make us realise that both are also finite and final is a rare reward and this exhibition is a major achievement by one of our finest artists,” Read adds.

* Open from 10am to 6pm daily, until Friday, April 3, with Angels Tears wine from the estate served at the opening.
