Community Chest Carnival prepares for four days of music, dance and more

The Community of Chest Western Cape has lined up some top home-grown musicians for the Carnival taking place between February 25 and 28 at Maynardville Park in Wynberg.
One of Southern Africa’s leading fundraising charity events, the Community Chest Carnival began as a theatrical garden party and has been transformed into a festival of food, fun, and entertainment — all for the purpose of raising money for charity.

To date the Carnival has confirmed that reggae band Sons of Selassie will perform, as will hip hop/R&B master Von Leigh. This will also be a chance to hear Hot Water, who have cut three critically acclaimed studio albums and has played at every major music festival in the country, including Kirstenbosch Gardens and Rocking
the Daisies.

“The Carnival is one of Cape Town’s most iconic events, with a strong tradition of also providing great entertainment,” says Community Chest Chief Executive Officer Lorenzo Davids. “We like to see it as a wonderful opportunity to showcase some highly gifted local talent.”
Also on stage will be the Afrikaans House and kwaito duo Mark Matroos and Von D from Mitchells Plain, who go by the name of Afrikaans Ruk. Others in the musical line up include Fritzherbert and Chasing Time.
Festival goers will also be entertained by a fusion of belly dancers and salsa dancers.
The Carnival has been conceived to provide Capetonians and visitors with a mix of information, entertainment and culinary delights suitable for all ages, interests, and tastes.
