Oom Schalk to regale Rosebank with some tall tales

The inimitable Oom Schalk Lourens, aka actor David Muller, will bring his white rose to Rosebank for a short season of ‘Oom Schalk, from the Heart’ at the charming Rosebank Theatre, showing until .
Directed by Celia Musikanth, Muller continues with the classic tradition of storytelling where Percy Sieff and Patrick Mynhardt left off. Muller inhabits the Schalk Lourens character truly from the heart.

The stories, written by Herman Charles Bosman, include the favourites, In the Withaak’s Shade, Schalk’s encounter with a leopard; A Bekkersdal Marathon, about a dominee and a lengthy trance in the pulpit and Willem Prinsloo’s Peach Brandy, when some Zeerust roses become useful to a young woman. From Durban to Grahamstown to Cape Town, ‘Oom Schalk, from the Heart’ has delighted critics and audiences alike.
Those in the front row may just taste a bit of Schalk Lourens favourite dop, and on Valentine’s Day there will be a surprise treat.

* Performances will take place at 8pm.
