Wine and food lovers will be able to tuck into mouth-watering sosatie pairings courtesy of Strandveld Vineyards winemaker, Conrad Vlok, at the third Elim Wine & Food Celebration on Saturday, October 11 at the Strandveld food and wine pairings. It will be among the many country specialities on offer on the day.
Joining eight fellow winegrowers from Elim and surrounds at hosting farm, Black Oystercatcher, the entire Strandveld Vineyards wine range will be available to taste and purchase.
The sosaties will be paired with elegant cool climate Strandveld Vineyards wines. Winemaker Conrad Vlok, a keen fisherman and hunter, has picked his favourite line fish and game for his sosaties.
“For our Strandveld and First Sighting Sauvignon Blanc 2013 we have chosen a yellow tail sosatie. This well-known favourite from Struisbaai is such a versatile fish that you can pickle it or enjoy as is – a great match for our Sauvignon Blanc,” says Conrad.
For his just released Strandveld The Navigator 2012, a full-bodied signature red, Vlok and his team will prepare succulent curried Springbok sosaties. “The combination of dried peaches and apricots with the springbok pairs just beautifully with the spiciness of The Navigator,” notes Conrad.
Wine lovers at the Elim Wine & Food Celebration will be spoilt for choice with a wide range of exciting wines from the relatively young Elim wine growing region, known for producing cool climate wines of elegance and finesse.
The event’s itinerary includes hearty country food, artisanal beer from the continent’s most southerly brewery and music from well known local artist Valiant Swart. Local produce, hand crafted pottery and indigenous flowers will also be available for purchase. An archery performance on horseback, a sheepdog performance and a crop spraying plane demonstration will be included in the day’s program.
