The Jenna Lowe Trust will be hosting a special fundraiser to cover the medical costs for the brave teenager awaiting a bilateral lung transplant, as well as to raise awareness of the desperate need for organ donors in South Africa. The event – entitled Celebrity Sunday – is scheduled to take place at the Baxter Theatre on Sunday, September7, from 6.30pm to 9pm, will feature top local and international entertainers on one stage, for one night only.
Jenna Lowe is a 19 year old Capetonian who suffers from the little-known and life-threatening condition called Primary Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension. This is when you have excessively high blood pressure in the veins and arteries of your lungs; a life-threatening condition for which there is no cure. Treatment is difficult and expensive, especially in South Africa. And when treatment fails to improve a patient’s condition, the only alternative is a lung transplant.
One organ donor can save seven lives; this is the closest most of us will come to being superheroes. Lowe desperately needs a lung transplant, along with 4300 other South Africans are also awaiting organ transplants. This is your chance to dress to dazzle at a glamorous evening of music, dance and stand-up comedy; and in doing so, help Jenna have a second chance at life.
The MC for this one-time event is Marianne Thamm, with Alan Committie, Brendan van Rhyn (Frank n Furter in the Fugard’s production of ‘The Rocky Horror Show’), Suanne Braun, Kim Kallie, Kristi Lowe, Albert Combrink, Anecdote, Cape Town Dance Company, Zip Zap Circus, the Masiphumelele Chamber Choir and more making up the ensemble. Tickets include complementary canapés on arrival. All proceeds will go to The Jenna Lowe Trust.
