Emerging jazz singers are called to enter GrandWest’s sixth annual Open Mic Jazz singing competition, which provides a platform for local talent to be discovered and showcased. With the chance to shine on stage comes the chance of winning enticing prizes.
The top performer in this year’s contest will win a prize package worth over R75000. Included in the package is R25000 in cash from GrandWest, a photography shoot worth R5000 from Steven Booth Photography, vocal mentoring by Bev Scott-Brown from Spotlight Music worth R5000, a SHURE S55 Microphone from Wild & Marr, a performance at the Cape Town International Jazz Festival in 2015, a video recording of an original song worth R15000 from Universoulmedia, two tickets to the Cape Music Exchange Conference 2015, and a live performance at The Crypt.
The runner-up will win prizes worth over R25000, and the third place performer will take home prizes worth over R14000.
Prize sponsors include The Table Bay, Golden Valley Casino, Cape Town International Jazz Festival, Spotlight Music, Cape Music Exchange Conference, Wild & Marr, and Universoulmedia.
Auditions take place every Wednesday night from 8.30pm to 11am at Jackson Hall, GrandWest until October 1.
The competition is open to all emerging jazz vocalists over the age of 18.
Professional singers – those already deriving an income from performing – are not permitted to enter the competition. Hopefuls must register for the competition between 7.30pm and 8.30pm at Jackson Hall on the day of their audition. Auditions are limited to 20 entrants per night, and there is no cost to enter.
