‘The Funeral: What The Silence Is For’ at the Alexander Bar is a profoundly touching little marvel of a show. Despite its compactness, it manages to fit in so many ideas and insights that it’s almost dizzying. You will never forget this one. Shows like these are the primary reason I love theatre in this city.
Mixing theatre techniques, poetry and music to create a unique performance style, ‘The Funeral’ is a meditation on the changing thinking and traditions around death in South Africa.
The production features an exhilarating performance from Mpapa Simo Majola, whose mix of conviction and delicacy is mesmerizing throughout.
* There are only three performances left: Friday, August 15 at 7pm, and Saturday at 3pm and 7pm.
