Afrikaans superstar Dozi “stripped down” at Die Boer

Dozi will be performing at Die Boer Theatre Restaurant in Durbanville on Monday, August 18 at 8.30pm.
The popular Afrikaans singer/songwriter will perform songs from his latest album, ‘Hande Vol Genade’ (Hands Full of Mercy), on the evening. Dozi has returned to his roots with the album, opting for a stripped down sound and with the focus firmly on the artist’s emotive voice. ‘Hande Vol Genade’ is a collaboration between Dozi and his creative partner of many years, drummer and vocalist Stef Kruger, with the latter composing the lyrics on the album.
Dozi has become renowned for the manner in which he imbues lyrical ballads with so much warmth. “I like for the audience to really be able to hear the words,” says the artist.
“I don’t think local audiences and fans of Afrikaans music in particular like screaming all that much. They prefer a more laid back vibe, I’ve discovered.”
Dozi debuted in 1999 with the album ‘Mercy’, and later achieved double platinum status with his first Afrikaans album, ‘Op Aanvraag’ (Upon Request).
‘Hande Vol Genade’ has gone on to become one of 2014’s standout releases.
