Wacky Wine Weekend ready to wow for 11th year

While the vineyards in the Robertson Wine Valley are still decked out in the last vestiges of orange and yellow and late autumn starts to tickle its cold fingers down your spine, farms are throwing open the barn doors and inviting the world to come and celebrate the annual Wacky Wine Weekend, from June 5 to 8.
The festival will again include four festive days – ‘Seriously Wine Thursday’, ‘Wine Up Friday’, ‘Full On Wacky Saturday’ or ‘Wine Down Sunday’ – each day boasting a unique theme to cater for all palates.

The organisers will embrace the usual line-up of fun-filled activities – brandy tours and tastings, river cruises, ‘meet-the-winemaker’ tastings, barrel tastings, cheese- and olive tastings, a simulated rodeo bull, a mountain bike challenge and local performing artists. Visitors can look forward to a gastronomic extravaganza of fresh produce, oysters, abalone, freshly baked breads, sushi and riverside picnics. Young ones can enjoy a wide range of children’s activities including fishing, jumping castles, pony rides, tractor trips and jungle gyms

Festival-goers are invited to join the Valley in supporting their local charities by donating blankets and winter clothing, for all ages, for those less fortunate. In return the Valley will reward the generous with wine, according to the weight of the donation, with a maximum of a six bottle case of wine which weighs about 9kg. Donations that weigh less than a bottle of wine will be rewarded with vouchers for wine purchases at La Verne online wine shop. Donations can be handed in at the Robertson Wine Valley office, corner of Voortrekker and Reitz Streets, Robertson.

A R110 weekend passport for entry to the festival can be purchased at the first port of call, ie any of the participating wineries, and includes a tasting glass, free 25mℓ wine-tasting samples, ‘goodie’ bag and festival programme. All other activities will be ‘pay-as-you-go’, with many being free of charge. Visitors will be able to purchase wine-by-the-glass or individual bottles of wine to share amongst friends.
