Motorsports enthusiasts are in for a treat when the third heat of Regional Races is held at Killarney International Race Circuit on Saturday, May 10. The Sports & GT Class will once again be displaying the variety of cars that are hosted in this class; from the classic Lola to the latest Porsches with class categories from A to E with cracking lap times as low as 1:12 seconds from the imported V6 Juno driven by Francis Carruthers.
The first two heats of the season have seen real close contentions in all classes with Carruthers leading Class A with 52 points ahead of Dawie Joubert in a Porsche GT3 Club Car with 38 points and Johan Engelbrecht – also Porsche – with 31 points. In the first two heats, Carruthers in his Juno lapped 1.3 seconds faster than the next Porsche, breaking their domination from last year.
Class B is dominated by Porsche with Mathew Kreeve leading the class ahead of Craig Jarvis and Keith Fourie. Mike Verrier, in his well turned out Nardini, is only 0.6 seconds a lap slower and remains in the hunt and in the right conditions could be seen to separate the Porsche trio.
Louis De Jager remains a consistent and reliable runner in the classic Lola leading Class C with 38 points ahead of Clinton Thorne in a very fast Lotus 7 powered by Toyota 1600 turbo engine.
Class D, probably the most hotly contested category in Sports & GT Racing, is headed by Cyril Ginsburg in his Porsche GT3. This class sees the biggest variety of cars including the Lola of Godfrey Lancellas, the very reliable Lotus 7 of Hennie Trollip, the turbo V8 Harper Sports Car Type 7 of Andre Ferreira, the beautifully prepared Ford GT40 of Paul Swartz, a range of Porsches, a Nardini and a very exciting Audi R8 turbo and many others.
So find your way to the track this Saturday and enjoy the feast
