Monday, May 5 is time again for another Spoken Word Showdown Quarter Final. The winners from the last four weeks’ Heat rounds compete for a place in the Semi Final on June 30 as well as a cash prize for both the comedian and poet advancing to the next stage.
The night will also see a special guest performance by Alan Committie, regarded as one of South Africa’s leading stand-up comics and character comedians.
From Cape Town to Johannesburg and all South African places in between, but also via London, New York and Los Angeles, the veritable One Man Committee of Comedy should the audience in stitches with his particular brand of madness.
Nomad Artiste Colony Cape Town (NACCT)’s yearlong poetry and comedy competition started at the end of January and runs until the Final on Monday, December 15. It is open to all semi-pro, amateur or first time comedians or poets.
The Spoken Word Showdown takes place at Players Restaurant at The River Club, corner Liesbeek Parkway and Station Road, Observatory, Cape Town.
