When you mention names like Elvis Pressley, Tom Jones, The Beatles and even the Bee Gees, it takes you back in time – or that is what we all just say. In fact, if you go to most 21st birthdays and even weddings you are sure to find some of these artists on the playlist.
Their music has stood the test of time, from LP’s to eight-tracks to cassettes to CD’s, and you can even buy them on DVD today. So it was not surprising to see the reactions from the highly energetic, but mature audience at the Roxy Revue Bar’s opening night for their latest offering ‘Heartbreak Hotel’.
The show is produced and directed by James Marais, one of the best Elvis impersonators in SA. Marais has been doing Elvis tribute shows for a while now and has built up quite a following that just love it when he does the Elvis the pelvis thing.
The very vocal audience were having a ball every time he came on stage and one cannot fault a show if it is delivering on the promise of being entertaining.
James has assembled a cast of 10 that includes a band, two very hot dancers and Monique Cassells on lead and back-up vocals. And stitching all this together is yet another, more comedic Elvis, Mr Fanie Schoeman, who also got his rock and roll groove going, with much applause from the audience.
They go through all the favourites from the 1950s, 60s and 70s that include hits like ‘Want to be Loved by You’, ‘Great Balls of Fire’, ‘Unchained Melody’, ‘La Bamba’, ‘Good Golly Miss Molly’, ‘Wake Up Little Suzie’, ‘Staying Alive’, ‘It’s Not Unusual’, ‘40 Days’ and ‘Long Tall Woman With a Black Dress’.
With so many food options at Grandwest, it is worth making this a night out with friends and family.
You will not be disappointed. Just remember to not skimp on the bling and party spirit. Strut your stuff like the star you are and make it a night to remember.
